winter update

I haven't written a lot of updates lately. Well, it is winter, and like a lot of other horse people, we are sort of in hibernation :-). It's just too wet and cold out there. I feed the horses and promise to spend more time with them soon. Sadly, it also means there aren't a lot of occasions to go riding. But... the days are getting longer and before long, spring will be here!

Meanwhile, we have said goodbye to Armando NS and Narrawin's Romantic Courage, they have gone to their new homes in the Hunter Valley and Western Victoria respectively.

Winter ride on Samba (Photo by Yvonne Lehey)

Thanks to Yvonne Lehey, Samba has joined our broodmare and riding horse herd. And in a couple of weeks, I'm picking up three Paso Creole geldings. They will all be started under saddle (after winter!!) and given some work. I'm really looking forward to working with a few new horses again. I'll post details and pictures when I have them.

Despite the horrible weather, we managed to plant some trees for windbreaks. The acquisition of a shiny new tractor resulted in some slashing gettung done around the place, but there are quite a few jobs which will have to wait until better weather, such as spraying and fencing upgrades.

The planned upgrade of narrawin.com has been put on hold until the end of my last semester at Uni, but I have been updating the existing website to keep the sales listing and other horse info current.

The following stallions will be standing at stud for the 2012/2013 season:
  • Wildmoor Pilgrim Son - American Saddlebred
  • Sovran's Midnight Express (Imp.USA) - American Saddlebred
  • Ramirez (aka Shepherd Hill Bruce) - Andalusian
  • AuSome Compay - Paso Creole
  • Chango NS - Peruvian Paso
For more info, please go to their respective pages, accessible via Narrawin's stallion page.

update

I have updated the sales page and the mares page. Finally!

So far, there have been no firm enquiries on Chango, so he will go back to the asking price of $6,500 tonight. However, the mystery horse purchase will go ahead regardless, subject to a vet check and all that stuff. I will publish more news if and when he arrives.

Rolly was picked up and has gone to his new home at Carlyle Stud. He is such a pleasant fellow and I will miss him. I'm very happy that he has gone to a stud home. The foals we bred from him were very nice, and I hope that he will produce many more for his new owners.

Easter Special

We are interested in buying another colt for our stud. To make vacant a stallion paddock (and let's face it.... make money!), we would like to sell another one of the stallions.

So we have decided to put Chango NS up for sale at the reduced/special price of $4,900 (AUD, incl.GST). This price is valid from today until 15 April 2012.

He has matured since this photo was taken, and looks even nicer now.

Interested? Contact us now.

Easter Update

We had a very mild, pleasant summer with not too much hot weather. The worst part were the hordes of large, biting March flies, which generallly turn up some time in January and hang around until late March. The autumn came with a bit of a bang, a sudden onset of cold and wet weather. All horses grew winter coats in a hurry!

The new arrivals from Olivaylle have settled in pretty well, and have had some handling in the meantime. We are planning breedings for several mares in spring/summer of 2012. I'll post an update later on in the year. I think that foaling season in 2013 will be very exciting!

The summer months have seen some horse movements at Narrawin Stud. Ron (Narrawin's Spice Rum) went to his new home on the far side of Melbourne. Speedy (Narrawin's Speed of Light) and Macarena (Narrawin's Dance All Night) now live near Bendigo. Raffles (Macario NS) is headed for Queensland and will be leaving us just after Easter. Rolly (Narrawin's Romantic Courage) will be going to the Western Districts after Easter as well.

The sales listing has been updated. However, I still have not had time to add all the new mares' pictures and information to the stud webpages.

We started some youngsters under saddle over the summer months, and will continue to be working and starting youngsters as time permits during the cooler time of the year.

new website

I'm working on a complete website overhaul. Aside from updating some of the general content, I'm going to add dynamic report generation. Instead of typing in the pedigree and progeny and details for every page that lists a horse, there will be a database with all the info. When a visitor clicks on a horse's name, the pedigree or progeny or detail view will come from the database. This will make updating a lot easier.

In addition, I'm going to completely change the look of the whole site. We've had a shift in focus to just Pasos and gaited horses, and away from Saddlebreds. To drive that point home, I intend to create new logos and the site will have a new layout and fresh look. I like the old site, but it's time for a change!

I've started working on it, and the back end stuff is coming along well. Meanwhile, I've also started playing with colours and designs. I really haven't decided yet, but here's the result of a bit of a play around today. Nothing final, this is just the equivalent of random thoughts on colour and shape :-)

The horse will be changed for something more Paso or my flying horse logo...

horses bought update

Due to the retirement of our friend Jorge, all his horses are up for sale.

This hase given us a one off opportunity to purchase some Paso Fino and Paso Creole horses and expand the bloodlines of our stud.

Last year saw the addition of Capricho (grey Paso Fino stallion) and Chewie (grey Paso Fino gelding). Since then, we have added the mares Zara (aka Zarzuela, pure Paso Fino), Gitana (Andy x Paso Fino), Guardaraya (Andy x Paso Fino) and Esperanza (Paso Fino).

Two more recent trips added a Paso Creole gelding, Tequila and several mares. They are She Raz (Paso Fino), Triguena (Paso Peruano x Paso Fino), Bailarina (Paso Peruano x Paso Fino) and Chica (Paso Fino).

As a result of these additions to the stud, we have decided not to join any mares this season. We still have a number of Saddlebred horses and some Paso Creole geldings to sell, before we will consider breeding again. However, our Paso stallions are available at stud.
